Tracking
May 3, 2026 BOTC Tracking Test Results
Although the weather was not great for field work, judges Lynda Morgan and Ray Desmarais plotted excellent tracks for the exhibitors entered into this event. We had 3 TD entries, one who withdrew because she acquired her TD title the weekend before, and 3 TDX entries, one who withdrew when notified she was in the BOTC draw.
Refreshments were available at Headquarters for the 9AM draw for tracks. Track 1 was run by a Boxer owned by Nina Daniel of Starksboro, a BOTC member. This dog made an excellent start on his track, proceeded nicely until the second corner, where he put a lot of effort into searching the area before finally returning to the track to finish in great style, earning this TD to become Moonracer Von Bachbett NF,TKP, FIN, TD
Track 2 was run by a bloodhound who came to us from Liverpool, NY, owned by Lauren Wienclawski and Karen Ushkivich. This dog had a great start but over shot a corner. Unfortunately not today, but soon we are certain this dog will succeed.
First TDX track was run by a labrador retriever owned by Toni Newman from Landenberg, PA. This dog got off to a great start but found the woods much more enticing, so unfortunately went off track. We feel certain this dog will succeed in the very near future.
TDX2 track went to another labrador retriever, owned by Julie Miller of Elkton, MD. This dog also found the woods much more interesting than what we had planned. Again a very nice tracking dog which will succeed soon.
At the conclusion of the tests everyone returned to Headquarters to enjoy conversation, awards, and pizza. A huge thank you to the judges, Lynda Morgan and Ray Desmarais, and the many tracklayers and workers required for a tracking event. Janine B, Beth D, Bob Wheaton, Dana Riddel, Veronica, Cassy. Ilene Morgan served as Secretary and Chair (with assistance from Janine) and Kevin, Lynda’s husband, served as driver for the judges. All these people worked together over the past week to contribute to the success of this tracking event. I feel we should also recognize the landowners for the generous use of their fields.

About Tracking
You may have noticed your dog has a keen sense of smell – 100,000 times stronger than humans – and it makes him naturally “nosey.” That strong sense of smell is the reason why dogs are well suited for emergency search-and-rescue work. Other scent-careers include bomb and narcotics detection in Law Enforcement as well as medical alert service dogs.
So what do you do with your ever-nosey dog? Get him involved in AKC Tracking where he can sniff and smell to his heart’s content and demonstrate his natural ability to recognize and follow a scent. It’s a perfect way for you and your dog to enjoy many hours together, outside in the fresh air, honing his natural abilities.
